The mission of the Center is to serve the professional and research Information Systems Communities with quality basic research, applied research and consultation. The Center primarily engaged in the management of basic research into the development, application, and use of decision, ecommerce and information systems, particularly in virtual organizations. It also has specific programs that support economic development of the information systems and technology industry in Louisiana.
The organization’s structure is designed to meet the key objectives of the Center that stem from its mission. These are to with excellence:
- Foster Economic Develop of the IS Industry in the Gulf South Region
- Manage Basic Research Programs Focused on the Extension of Knowledge About the Development, Management and Application of Information Systems
- Support Industry with Applied Research
- Support Industry with Selective Consultation
- Stimulate Basic Research in Information Systems
- Conduct & Support Research into Decision Support Systems for Executives, Individuals and Groups
- Manage A Functional Executive Education, Development and Support Program
The Center came into being as an integral part of the long-term strategy of the E. J. Ourso College of Business to position itself as the premier "New Economy College of Business." The CVOC initiative, and a number of other organizational initiatives, were developed to provide education broadly in the emerging digital economy and to help define Louisiana State University and Louisiana as leading high-technology centers in the new economy. Defined as "the application of technology toward the automation of business transactions and workflows," electronic commerce has reshaped consumer- purchasing behavior worldwide and dramatically shifted the way businesses deal with suppliers, with internal operations and with customers. It has evolved in many forms and that require grappling with a variety of issues such as management of virtual structures, security, payment alternatives, electronic cash, societal infrastructure, standards, ethics, interface design, personal privacy, alternative technologies, and digital economics as well as others.
